Welcome to Casa Torre
Casa Torre is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, nestling between the enchanting white villages of Canillas de Albaida and Competa. From the villa’s spectacular location, there are glorious views down to the Mediterranean Sea, and dramatic vistas of the majestic Maroma mountain range behind the house.
Casa Torre has two bedrooms and two bathrooms in the main house and a pretty double en-suite guest house in the walled garden (‘The Casita’).
There is a fully equipped kitchen and a lovely sun lounge (we call it ‘The Moroccan Den’) which has glass walled curtains to take full advantage of the amazing south-facing views.
Says Susan the owner: “My passion for Spain and Morocco is reflected in the furnishings and art inside the house and, as an avid art collector, I have brought paintings and fabrics from as far afield as Vietnam, China and Thailand to create an eclectic and exotic blend of colours and textures.”
The totally private walled garden has a wide variety of indigenous plants and trees, and the scent in the early morning and evening is lovely.
Terracotta tiles adorn the terrace which has colourful flowerpots, a Moorish style fountain and a rose-covered arch that leads to the Casita.
At the other end of the garden is a flower-covered pergola with a dining table that seats eight – perfect for “al fresco” dining.
The pool can be used year-round as it is heated – one of very few in the area. However, heating is unnecessary in the hot summer months.

Villa Location
Casa Torre is located just 1.5km from the enchanting Moorish village of Canillas de Albaida, which lies at the foothills of the Almijara mountain range and national park, making it an ideal base for hiking and nature trails. You will find a selection of hiking guides and maps in the house.
Canillas is charming, with winding narrow streets and whitewashed houses whose colourful window boxes and doors are so typical of the area. It has changed little over hundreds of years.
Competa, 3km to the east, is a larger village that is equally engaging and vibrant, with many restaurants, gift shops, and a fun Saturday morning market.
The bustling village square has a great assortment of outdoor tapas bars and is the perfect place to enjoy a coffee or a refreshing drink whilst watching the world go by!
The walk to Competa from Casa Torre takes about 20 minutes by either road or by the Goat Track. There is a large car park in the village centre if you prefer to drive.

Let’s Go Exploring!
Casa Torre is perfectly situated for exploring the local towns, trails, and treks that are scattered all around the area. It is also located less than two hours’ drive from Granada, home of the enchanting Alhambra Palace, 40 minutes from the charming town of Nerja, home of the famous Nerja Caves, and is a one hour drive from the stunning coastal city of Malaga.
Competa, to the east of Casa Torre is a bustling, colourful town with various local events and fiestas to enjoy in the summer. It has a colourful Saturday morning market.
Shopping
If like us, you enjoy local markets, there are plenty to choose from in the area. They tend to be noisy, colourful affairs, with lots of stalls selling all kinds of goods such as fashion, leather items, Spanish pottery, herbs & spices, and lots of other things!
The closest supermarkets are in Canillas do Albaida. In Canillas, we use Supermercado Andalucia as it is well-stocked and the people are friendly. It is open most of the time and they have fresh bread every day from their own oven.
There is a larger selection of shops in nearby Competa, including an excellent fresh vegetable shop at the bottom end of the village near the gelateria. They also sell local sausages, cheeses, etc.
You can also find very nice gifts in Competa. However, for more choice, we recommend Nerja or Torre del Mar.
Some of our regular guests like to stop at a large supermarket on the coast before heading up the hill to Casa Torre. The closest to the house on the motorway is called Eroski in the El Ingenio shopping centre. Take the Torre del Mar /Velez Malaga exit and it is at the bottom of the hill in front of you. You’ll need €1 for the shopping trolley – refundable of course! In the same shopping centre are Zara, H&M, Mango and other shops.
What Our Guests Say
“A lovely house with every comfort and beautiful artwork. Fabulous views and a scented garden. The sun shimmering on a fabulous pool (clear & warm, what a treat). The gentle hum of insects, birdsong, distant church bells. the occasional clip-clop of horses passing by… We have had a great holiday here. Thank you, Susan, for letting us share your lovely house.”
From there, you can ski in the morning and be on the beach in an hour – not many places in the world you can do that.”
